Since April 1, 2025, carbon tax has been removed from most carbon-based fuels sold in the Northwest Territories. Carbon pricing now applies only to prescribed large industrial emitters under the Petroleum Products and Carbon Tax Act. Residents and most businesses no longer pay carbon tax on fuel purchases.
The GNWT provides suppliers with the option to receive payment via Direct Deposit.
To begin receiving payments directly into your bank account, complete the Direct Deposit form and return the signed original to Financial and Employee Shared Services. You can submit the form by mail or in person to any of the regional Financial Shared Services Centres.
During the Canada Post service disruption, you will be unable to send cheques or money orders through the mail. Please consider submitting payment through your bank, or by calling or visiting the Financial & Employee Shared Service Centre nearest you. The GNWT encourages businesses and individuals to receive payments through Direct Deposits.
