Liquor Server Training: The SafeServe Certification Program

SafeServe is an online certification program that provides responsible liquor service training SafeServe is designed to ensure that liquor is sold and served in a way that keeps customers, guests, and others safe from alcohol-related harms.

What will I learn in the SafeServe training?

The SafeServe training is designed to:

  • help employers, hosts and workers be socially responsible;
  • create a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for guests while keeping property and people safe;
  • promote the responsible sale of liquor in stores and places where liquor is served;
  • recognize when people appear to be intoxicated; and
  • identify the many people involved in responsible liquor service.

Participants who successfully complete SafeServe will understand:

  • the “Duty of Care” to customers or guests;
  • legal responsibilities and liabilities when serving or selling liquor;
  • how alcohol affects the body and behaviours;
  • how to identify the signs of intoxication;
  • how to refuse liquor sales or service to minors and people who appear intoxicated; and
  • illegal activities that can happen at licensed premises.

Who can take the SafeServe training?

The SafeServe training is available online and is open to anyone working in the liquor service industry or those seeking employment as a liquor server.
