Insurance Licensing & Regulation

Any person who carries on the business of an insurance company, agent, adjuster, or salesperson in the Northwest Territories, whether or not that person is resident of the Territory, must have a valid license issued under the Insurance Act of the Northwest Territories. This applies to all insurance business, whether it is done in person, in writing, over the telephone or online.

As of September 12, 2017, the Superintendent of Insurance ceased issuing licences for a one year period; all licences are now being issued for a two year period. Refunds are available for second year if required.
