Northwest Territories Population by Age and Gender - January 2024 (03/27/2024)
On January 1, 2024 Statistics Canada estimated that 44,741 people were living in the Northwest Territories. Between January 1, 2023 and January 1, 2024, the population in the Northwest Territories increased by 226 persons.

Consumer Price Index - February 2024 (03/19/2024)
Information released today by Statistics Canada indicates that the Yellowknife All-Items Consumer Price Index in February rose by 1.7% compared to one year ago. By comparison, annual prices increased 2.8% for Canada, 4.2% for Edmonton, 2.5% for Whitehorse and 3.1% for Iqaluit.

Labour Force Survey Highlights - February 2024 (03/08/2024)
According to Statistics Canada, between January and February 2024, employment in the Northwest Territories (NWT) decreased by 200 persons to 22,570. At 69.7%, the employment rate was 3.5 percentage points lower than in January 2024.

Capital Expenditure Investments - 2024 Intentions (02/27/2024)
Statistics Canada has released 2024 investment intentions for private and public capital expenditures for Canada, the provinces and territories. Compared to 2023, overall 2024 capital expenditures for the Northwest Territories are expected to decrease by 11.2% to $898.8 million. Public expenditures are expected to decrease by 5.6% in 2024, while private expenditures are expected to decrease by 24.5%.

Gross Domestic Product, Northwest Territories - 2022 Final (11/08/2023)
Statistics Canada has released initial 2022 estimates of income and expenditure accounts and revised 2022 estimates of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for Canada, the provinces and territories. NWT GDP increased by 2.9% between 2021 and 2022. At the industry level, GDP declined in mining, quarrying and oil & gas extraction industry, driven by a decrease of 7.9% in diamond mining. Transportation and warehousing as well as accommodation and food services experienced double digit growth but remained below pre-pandemic levels.

Market Basket Measure - 2021 NWT Results (06/22/2023)
Today Statistics Canada released 2021 poverty estimates for Yukon and Northwest Territories (NWT) using the Northern Market Basket Measure (MBM-N). Estimates for 2021 indicate 15.0% of the NWT population, or approximately 6,400 people, were in poverty. Due to variability of survey data, this estimate could be anywhere between 7.7% (lower bound) and 22.3% (upper bound).
