Office of the Chief Information Officer

The Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) serves as the GNWT’s senior authority related to Information and Communications Technology (ICT). The OCIO functions as an advisor to the Informatics Policy Council (IPC) on strategy and policy matters and acts on behalf of the IPC in ensuring that strategy and policy implementation is undertaken within the GNWT in a timely and consistent manner.

The OCIO works with all stakeholders in all aspects of its mandate to ensure that ICT investments, assets, and operations support the business goals of the GNWT in an effective, efficient and economical manner. As well, the OCIO provides day-to-day guidance to all stakeholders regarding strategy, security and policy implementation.

In addition to supporting GNWT wide ICT support and resources, the OCIO is also responsible for representing Northern interests for Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) and NWT Broadband program. We believe that robust telecommunications and broadband Internet are important foundations for a prosperous NWT economy, so we get involved, support and advocate for improvements in this area.
