COMMUNICATIONS
Communication about new liquor legislation has occurred in 2 phases:
Phase 1 - Project Update
A new Liquor Act received assent in the NWT Legislative Assembly on August 23, 2007. Most people, however, did not realize that the new Act would not come into force until all the regulations were revised. This phase of the communication plan was implemented in late 2007 to inform people of the status of the legislation and what would happen next.
Phase 2 - Communication of Changes
Prior to implementing the new legislation, a series of communication activities occurred to provide the public and stakeholders with clear information about how changes would affect them. These communication activities included:
- Regular updates to this website
- Public advertisements
- Information session for community governments
- Information sessions for liquor store vendors
- Information sessions for liquor licence holders
- Information sessions for RCMP
- Training for Liquor Licensing Board, Liquor Commission and liquor inspectors
- Licensee newsletter
