POLICY
Public officers may only accept or extend hospitality and gifts within approved authority.
PURPOSE
Hospitality must be appropriate in nature and value and must be extended economically.
SCOPE
Applies to hospitality and gifts extended in order to facilitate Government and Public Agencies business and represent the Government and Public Agencies with diplomacy.
Applies to the acceptance of hospitality and/or gifts by Government or Public Agencies employees.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Minister/Deputy Head
Ensure that hospitality and gifts are appropriate, facilitate Government and Public Agencies business and represent the Government and Public Agencies with diplomacy.
Where prior approval is obtained from the responsible Minister alcoholic beverages are permitted to be purchased with public funds when extending hospitality.
Where it is a functional responsibility of a Minister, Deputy Minister or their duly authorized delegate’s position to provide meals, beverages, refreshments, or participate or provide for reception, shows, or performances, in the conduct of government or Public Agencies business and when appropriate.
Comptroller General
May approve Interpretation Bulletins associated with this policy.
Financial Management Board
May issue a directive respecting the financial management or financial administration of a Department or Public Agency.
